Some people think that the most important thing about being rich is it gives a person the opportunity to help other people.
Being rich gives an opportunity to help others. Although, I partly agree with the statement. Wealthy individuals can help others with finance, however, one need not be wealth to be an helpful individual.
Firstly, financially sound person can help people with low-income groups. There are Universities, that allow people to do charity and these charity amount pays scholarships to the needy and the deserving. More to this, wealthy people can help out NGO's, orphanage and old age homes. Adding to this, there are people investing in small business, to help out the individuals who are wiling to start-up their own business.
Contradicting to this, I would state, you need not be rich to help people. There are so many ways to help others, other than with money. Few of them are stated below,
- Donating Blood, is the most pure form of human helping human. Since blood can save life of an individual. Which, needless to state, costs no money.
- Knowledge Transfer. In an Indian magazine survey, it was mentioned that, most of engineers in Mumbai like to provide some distant education to the person in remote areas. They stated that, these teachers mostly claim on the fact that they are from a Middle-class background. Moreover, on the similar lines, there are NGO's in metropolitan cities that allows any regular individual to teach students up to 5th grade, kids who can't afford education, benefits most out of it.
- Moreover, small things like helping a friend with organising their new home, helping a collogue with a new project or helping a junior with it's assignment, costs little to none.
Thus, in conclusion, Being rich, helps to help others in financial aspects, albeit, there are many areas to help others without being wealthy.
