Today the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Nowadays, people tend to buy more and more different items, and it is considered to be the result of good advertising rather than real necessities of population. I agree with this view, the majority of people buy goods due to the trend or advertisement put in public places.
First of all, modern technologies allow companies to make advertising an extremely powerful instrument in order to attract people to their products. In other words, if people look at some billboards on the streets or pictures on the Internet which, for example, depict a happy family owing to the acquisition of a new iPhone, it will affect their mind and their emotions. As a result, they would want to buy an iPhone, regardless of what smartphone they have already had. Moreover, research has shown than economic consumer behavior is usually irrational. So, people tend to make decisions based on their feelings rather than logic.
Secondly, there is a wide variety of products and the only small part of them is really necessary for society. Taking into account basic needs of people in food, usual clothes and home, it is obviously that such great choice of goods is excess. On the other hand, the manufacture of items and at the same time money of citizens spent on them promote to the development of economics in country. it can be considered as a beneficial side for society.
In conclusion, I believe that the sales of common products represent the effects of advertising more than the needs of people.
