Comic
The Author fully supports the idea that comics are unique art form that had originated in America, while the Speaker opposes this claim by dismissing the Authors claims based upon three arguments.
The Writers first argument is that in the 1980s the comic Hogans Ally was the first commercially successful comic, with American features. This comic had marked the beginning of the comics commercialization. However, the Orator reveals that first successful comics are actually realized years before in Europe, in Great Britain and Switzerland. If the Hogans Ally was not the first successful comic, then this comic does not mark the beginning of the comics as the Writer suggested.
Second, the first action comic book was realized in America. This is cited by the Author as the valid argument to support the idea that comics are unique American art. Never would the Lecturer support this claim, remarking that not only the Supermen was created by Canadian artists, but also that the first action comic was published 16 years before Supermen in Belgium. As there is the Belgian comic that had predated Superman, then the action comics were not first popularised in America, as the Author claims.
If both of these reasons are not convincing arguments, the Essayist would rely upon the fact that the comic art had been proven to spread and influenced through the world. For instance, the Manga comics were inspired by the American comic brought to Japan after the Second World War. The Lecturer rebuts this argument. He explains that the Manga was actually inspired by the traditional Asians art. So, if the traditional art had influenced the Manga, it might not involve the influence of American comic art as one of the inspiring factors of the creation of the Manga as the Essayist claims.
Through contradictory arguments, the Speaker casts doubt on the validity of the Authors claims based upon the commercial success of comics, first action comics and on the influence on art forms
