Now a days tourists are opting more for eco-tourism, this is due to the fact that they one to be more relate to nature. The document states that eco-tourism helps development, provides new jobs and preserves natural landscapes.
First, the preservation of natural landscapes develop the surrounding areas by providing locals the offers of new jobs like hotels, activities, tours and other attractions.
Also, eco-tourism helps natural environments not to be polluted and/or damage by those who want to exploit the natural resources.
But, in the lecture the professor put in evidence the cons of green-tourism, such as corruption, damage in locals’ culture, pollution and damage in the eco-system.
Green-tourism offers locals jobs such as guards to protect the environment, but these can be easily bribed to take advantage of natural resources. Furthermore, the locals’ culture is heavily damaged due to globalization.
Even though tourists are more nature conscient, they cannot avoid the pollute and/or damage their surroundings. Also, the creation of access’ to these places involves the destruction of surrounding eco-systems.
In conclusion, even though people tend to associate eco-tourism as a healthy and nature friendly option, these do not come as nature friendly as one would think.
