Essay topics:

project and group

The article discuss the pros and cons of assigning a group to complete any task. More specifically, in regards to the writing, the writer thinks that it is the best way to approach a group as this offer various advantages. However, the lecturer is quick to point out the issues with such argument, and cite the findings of various researches to contradict the author’s claims.
First and foremost , the writer suggests that because a group offer wider range of knowledge, expertise, and skills, it is more likely that a group will complete assigned task more quickly and also more creatively. The lecturer disagrees with this claim and talks about the finding of a research. According the the research, in a group project, thing move very slowly. Because it need the agreement between various members, it demands many meeting to bring every member on the same page.
The writer also claim that in a group, a single person can not be account responsible for failure and everyone is responsible for the success and failure, so the group tend to rake risk and come up with more creative solutions for the problems. Of course, though, lecturer does not agree with this claim. He explains that because individuals are not responsible for the task completion, some member does not work at all, but everyone get recognized and because of this, the hard worker feel bad.
The reading passage wraps its argument by positing that individuals have more chance to “shine” in a project and contribute more significantly, because cumulatively they can achieve more than that person could have done alone. Not surprisingly, the lecturer rebuts this statement. He continues that because few people are more influential in a group, they often prioritize their own idea and opinions, while suppressing other people’s idea. Upon failing, instead of making such people responsible, the whole team is held responsible for their actions.
