Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they respond to the specific concerns presented in the reading passage
The reading passage contends that there are many problems regarding the project of going to Mars. On the other hand, the lecturer brings up several points that contradict this argument.
First of all, the lecturer points out that it is possible to provide enough food, water, and oxygen. This is attributed to the fact that astronauts can cultivate food crops and diverse plants. In this way, they can eat them and provide enough water and fresh air. This refutes the reading passage's first point that the Mars mission is not possible without those essentials.
Moreover, in the lecture, the point is made that being in low gravity environment for a long time is possible. This is because many experienced astronauts have developed techniques to adjust themselves to low gravity environment. Also, they can take diverse vitamins and calcium, which help them prevent health problems such as lower bone density and decreased muscle mass. This contradicts to the reading passage's second point that the severe low gravity environment would make the project impossible .
The final point made by the lecturer is that the space radiation can be handled. It is obvious that the radiation is not always in the dangerous levels. Therefore special instruments to detect the level of radiation and shield the radiation can be helpful for astronauts to do the Mars project. As a result, with such reasoning, the final point made in the reading passage is invalid.
