The reading passage lists some benefits of a team project work. And the lecturer argues with the advantages mentioned in the reading on the basis of data on actual results of some project groups in one company.
First advantage mentioned in the reading is that the group of people has a wider range of knowledge and expertise than an individual usually possesses. And as far as it's many people involved they have more resources therefore they are able to come with solution much faster than can be done on individual basis. The lecturer refers to practical examples when group didn't move with any solutions for a months because they could not come to consensus and had to run many meetings to build the agreement.
In addition to concern on speed of group work the lecturer also doubts the efficiency of result talking about problems with motivation for the groups. For example, it was observed that some groups who did the good job did not get any reward, or also it was few cases when recognition was done for entire group and people who were actually leading there with ideas were not rewarded and they felt demotivated.
Secondly, the reading stated that group solutions are more likely to be more creative than individually elaborated solutions, because responsibility in the groups is split equally to all members and they do not afraid to take a bold decisions. The lecturer debates the efficiency of this using the example of the group where couple of leaders turned entire group to move to very risky way by convincing them that this way was very creative. Later on, when time and resources were spent, and risky decision led them nowhere, all of the members were responsible for the failure.
Comparing the reading with examples giving in lecture, it seems to be that team work on projects is not so obviously effective and it depends on the angle of consideration meaning that it can be effective in one circumstances and can fail in others in same way like it may happen with individual work on projects as well.
