Employees want to reduce time working from five days to four days a week, and in this way, companies give them four-fifth of their normal salary, as the reading puts it. It provides three reasons of support. The lecturer, nevertheless, repudiates all reasons and explains is not beneficial.
The first, the reading states that a company can benefit from this policy in that not only does it have to pay less money to their employees, but also the rate of error of them is reduced. The professor repudiates this reason by saying that companies have to pay more money in order to train and medical insurances of new employees. That companies have to provide new offices and computers cut down the profit of them.
The second, the passage posits that the rate of unemployment would decrease because of hiring new staffs. Quite on the contrary, the professor has cast serious doubt on this belief by saying that no new job can be found, if companies a new suggestion to do remained tasks. He says that in this way, the current job would be an unpleasant job.
The third, the reading claims that it is tremendously helpful for employees since they can spend more time with their families. The professor emphasizes that if they work less time, it may cause lose their chance to promote in their job. In some cases, when facing predicament economic, they would lose their work.
