The reading passage states that using glass for the building is dangerous for birds because they cannot realize it from open air, so they fly through them. Also, the reading presents three solutions to overcome the problem. However, the professor in the lecture casts doubt on the ideas given in the reading.

First of all, the reading states that one solution is, replacing the glass with one-way glass which can hide the inside of the building, in result birds cannot fly through because they cannot see through it. In contrast, the professor contradicts with information presented in the reading and illustrates that one-way glass performs like a mirror, and for example, if there is a tree beside the building, the bird would see the tree through the glass too and does not understand the difference. In result, it will not prevent them flying through the glass.

Second, the reading claims that painting design of stripes will prevent birds from hitting the glass. Also, building's occupants can see through it too. On the contrary, the professor refutes the solution and makes the point that birds consider open spaces in the painting as holes, so they will try to fly right through it. Also adds that if architects try to design the free spaces as small as possible which birds could not pass through, it will be so dark in the rooms.

Third, the reading puts forward the idea that, creating a magnetic field around the building will keep away from the building. Moreover, its proof is that birds use earth's magnetic fields to determine their directions so that we can use it to diverse them. On the other hand, the professor contradicts the idea and further explains that birds use the magnetic fields exclusively for long distances, for example, to migrate from cold places to warm ones. However, for short distances like one side to another side of the city, they use only eyes and bright light, in the result, the solution will not help the problem.
