TPO54 integrate writing
According to the reading, because of the salty water in the Salton Sea, it cannot support the surrounding animals. Therefore, there exist several methods that can decrease the salinity in the lake Though the lecture deals with the same subject matter, it argues otherwise.
The lecture counter argues the text with three main points. First of all, although the reading passage states that removing the salt from the lake by special desalination facilities can restore the lake's health, the professor states the materials that left behind after evaporating the water pumping from the lake might contain other toxic chemicals which will spread into the air and harm human's health by breathing in the body.
Moreover, despite the statement in the reading that building pipelines or canals can deliver water from the ocean that diluting the lake's salinity, the professor explains the claim made in the reading passage is ill-grounded. Since the distances between the lake to the ocean are about one-hundred kilometers, it is expensive to build pipelines or canals in such long distances and the governments might not have enough resources to complete the constructions.
Finally, the text claims to build walls in the lake can divide the water into high salinity sections and low salinity sections. However, the professor asserts the wall might not work in a long term. Due to the intense geological activities such as the earthquake in the area, the wall will eventually collapse and the high salinity water will mix with the low salinity water.
