Argument Essay:-->
The following appeared in a letter to the editor of Parson City's local newspaper.
"In our region of Trillura, the majority of money spent on the schools that most students attend—the city-run public schools—comes from taxes that each city government collects. The region's cities differ, however, in the budgetary priority they give to public education. For example, both as a proportion of its overall tax revenues and in absolute terms, Parson City has recently spent almost twice as much per year as Blue City has for its public schools—even though both cities have about the same number of residents. Clearly, Parson City residents place a higher value on providing a good education in public schools than Blue City residents do.".....
Write a response in which you discuss what specific evidence is needed to evaluate the argument and explain how the evidence would weaken or strengthen the argument.
The author's argument that Parson City residents place a higher value on providing good education because they had spent more money on public schools seems to be tenable at first glance. However, conclusion relies on assumptions for which there are no clear evidences.
To begin with, author's argument that Parson City spent more on schools for providing good education is based on lack of evidences because there can be various other reason due to which City is spending a greater amount on schools. It can be a possibility that the Parson City public schools building is damaged, or its, infrastructure is in a deteriorated condition and due to which Parson City people had decided to spent more amount to renovate the school building. If the building foundation is weak then it is dangerous for students studying over there, as it is possible that the building could fall at any time.
In addition to it, there will be various other reasons due to which people had spent money on schools like making new laboratory in schools. It can be a possibility that Blue City public schools have better laboratories as compared to Parson City public schools due to which people of Parson City had decided to install new laboratories with various new instruments in it, to make Parson public school better as compared to blue city public school. In such type of arrangements greater amount of money is spent because laboratories instruments are always costly.
Furthermore, there are various public schools which provide hostel facilities to their students because if a school is better in providing education then students from other cities also come to enroll themselves in such type of high rated schools. So, it can be a reason that Parson City people had spent more amounts on public schools for providing dormitory facilities over there. If in the localities near school provide high rent apartments then it can be considered that the amount spent is for hostel facilities inside school.
To sum up, author may not necessarily be wrong to assert that Parson City people place a higher value on providing good education for which they are spending more amounts on Public Schools. However, the argument provided by the author is not substantiated with enough evidences which will prove the greater interest of Parson City people towards education. To bolster the argument author has to provide more conclusive evidences which shows that the money spent by people on schools is only for providing higher value to education.
