In the Reading part, the author proposes several solutions that responsible businesses can use to prevent injuries to birds while they are trying to fly through glass windows. However, the lecturer is critical of what the author states and refutes these solutions correspondingly.
First, as put forth by the author, one-way glass is only transparent to occupants of the building and act as a solid barrier to birds, preventing birds to fly through it. On the other hand, the lecturer opposes this solution, mentioning that these glasses act like a mirror to birds and reflect the sky or trees. Therefore, these glasses mislead the bird to fly through them.
Second, the author points out that using colorful designs such as painting thin stripes over the glass is an effective solution because birds will avoid trying to fly through the glass. The lecturer, nevertheless, cast doubt on this solution, contending that the space between patterns perceive as an open hole to birds and the will fly through them. if they design these spaces as small as possible as an alternative, the room will be too dark for people.
Third, as it has been claimed by the author, creating an artificial magnetic field will guide birds away. While, the lecturer does not consider this solution plausible and posits that birds only use their natural ability of sensing magnetic field when they are travelling a long distance. In the short distances, birds use their eyes to determine where they want to go. Therefore, the artificial magnetic field does not seem to be an effective solution.
