The table below shows the results of a survey of the average number of cars per hour using three suburban roads during working hours in a ten year pollution monitoring programme. Traffic calming was introduced in Harper Lane at the beginning of 1999.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the data.
The table illustrates the outcomes of a study of the average number of cars per hour using three given roads from 1993 to 2000 in a pollution monitoring programme.
Overall, it can be seen that while Great York Way and Long Lane were the most polluted routes, Harper Lane was the least polluted road.
In detail, the number of vehicles in Harper Lane stood at 82 in 1993, which was nowhere near as polluted as Great York Way (600) and Long Lane (400). Having been less polluted in 1993, there was, however, a sharp swell year on year in Harper Lane, rocketing to 915 in 1998. Interestingly, 915 was the highest figure in 1998, compared to two other lanes. On the other hand, both Great York Way and Long Lane ballooned to 695 and 700 correspondingly in 1998 despite witnessing some fluctuations during the period.
As a consequence of the enforcement of traffic calming in Harper Lane in 1999, there was a dramatic dip in the quantity, plummeting to a low of 204 in the same year and still continued downward trends to finish the span at 193. In contrast, there was a rapid growth in Great York Way and Long Lane to 900 and 1400 respectively from 1998 to 2000.
