Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they oppose specific points made in the reading passage.
The lecturer completely contradicts the views of the author of the reading passage. The professor indicates the following points to indicate that close study on altruistic behavior of animals and humans has shown that they are not always unselfish and sacrificial.
Meerkats are not considered altruistic by the lecturer due to following two reasons.
First, eventhough a meerkat acts as sentinels while other meerkats hunt for food, as they eat before the other food-searching meerkats, they are full strong to guard and look out for predators.
Second, they will be the first to escape due to two resasos. One is that, sentinals will be near a burrow when they guard. Other reason is that, the other meerkats will get the attention of the predator more than sentinals as they will gather or move about to defend themselves immediately after the alarming cry alerts by sentinals.
Human's altruistic character is refuted by the lecturer as well. The lecturer supports his position by pointing out the appreciation a person will receive whne he does altruistic acts such as donating organs even to strangers. Increase in self-worth and some people who value non-material rewards more are posed as reasons for her opinion.
