The chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billions) of telephone calls in the UK, divided into three categories, from 1995 - 2002.
The bar graph illustrates the number of minutes used telephone calls in three primary categories namely local – fixed line, national and international – fixed line, and mobiles in Britain over a period of 7 years between 1995 and 2002.
Overall, it is clear that most people used local - fixed line among the three surveyed; however, the figure decreased over the time shown while the other two significantly increased. Units are measured in billion minutes.
In 1995, the number of minutes used by local – fixed line was at approximately 70 billion minutes, nearly 2 times higher than that of national and international – fixed line. Then, the former saw a gradual rise of around 20 billion minutes in the next 3 years before tumbling to the same amount as at the beginning in 2002. However, the later witnessed a dramatic increase to over 60 billion minutes over the period surveyed.
Meanwhile, the total of minutes of mobiles (all calls) was merely below 5 million minutes in 1995 and it remained below 10 million minutes until 1998. After that, the figure rose significantly to nearly 45 billion minutes in the end.
