Sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas (1999 & 2004)
The shown tables give information about the sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in 5 different European countries, between 1999 and 2004. Overall it can be seen that the UK increased drastically the sales of coffee up to 20 million, almost 13 times the amount spent in 1999.
Furthermore, more than triple was spent in the UK for bananas in 5 years time, going from 15 million to 47 and making the country the one that invested the most.
Among the other 4 considered countries (Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, Sweden), no other drastic changes are to be found: in fact, Switzerland spent 3 million in coffee in 1999 and double the amount in 2004, almost as Belgium that increased by 0.7 million in 5 years. Both Denmark and Sweden spent 0.2 million dollars more from 1999 to 2004 in the import of Fairtrade-labeled coffee.
Surprisingly, whilst sales of bananas and coffee increased in most countries from 1999 to 2004, however, in Sweden and Belgium sales of bananas decreased from 1.8 to 1 million euros and 2 to 0.9 million euros respectively.
