The diagrams below show the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon.
The given pictures illustrate various stages in the development of a kind of fish called the salmon.
Overall, the life cycle of salmon contains three different phases from the eggs to the mature fish in nearly 10 years.
The cycle begins with tiny fish called “fry”, which are hatched from eggs in five to six months. The length of a fry ranges from three to eight centimeters. In the next stage, the fries swim to the lower river which flows very fast and they spend about 4 years living there. After that, these fries grow up and turn into another form named “smolts” which is about twelve to fifteen centimeters long. The smolts then move to the open sea and live there in approximately five years and they become “mature” salmon with 70-76 centimeters in length.
At the last phases, the adult salmon travel to the upper river which has slow movements in order to lay eggs. The eggs are put under the reeds with small stones and the new cycle starts when the eggs transfer to the fries after five or six months.
