The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1840 and 1940 in three different contries.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The given line graph compares and contrasts the data on the changes in people at the age of 65 and over in terms of the percentages in three different countries (namely japan, sweden and the us) over the period of 100 years (1840-1940).
Overall, it can be clearly seen from the graph that the percentage of population aged 65 and over had an upward trend in all countries.
In the year of 1840, the number of aged people in both two countries sweden and the us was more than that in japan, at about 7% and roughly 9%, respectively, whereas this rate was just 5% in japan. Because of having a big step in proportion, japan reached the highest point at just above 27% at the end of the period. On the other hand, the figures for sweden and the usa were lower than japan's proportion in 2040, at over 25% and about 23%, respectively.
During a century, the proportion of aged people in sweden and the us had a small fluctuation, but the trend was upward and more than the figure for japan during the first nine decades. The rate of japan decreased slightly in the haft of the century to bottom at about 3% from 1860 to 1886 and then rocketed substantially, overcoming the usa and sweden in the year of 1933.
