The table below shows the amount of waste production (in millions of tonnes) in six different countries over a twenty-year period.
The table compares the amount of waste that was produced by six nations from 1980 to 2000.
Overall, except for Korea, the figure for waste production increased in five out of the six countries. Besides, the US always produced the largest waste for over 20 years.
The waste of the US rapidly rose from 131 (1980) to 192 million tonnes (2000). Between 1980 and 1990, waste production also climbed quickly, in Japan and Korea, from 28 to 32 and from zero to 31 million tonnes, respectively. By 2000, while Korea tended to reduce its waste to 19 million tonnes, the waste of Japan went up gradually to 53 million tonnes.
Between 1980 and 2000, waste production slowly increased, in Poland and Portugal, from 4 to 6.6 and from 2 to 5 million tonnes, respectively. From 1980 to 1990, the waste of Ireland decreased slightly from 0.6 million tonnes to zero. By 2000, although the production rose to the same number as Portugal, this level still was the lowest point.
