The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.

The graph illustrates rates for population with 65 years old or more in USA, Sweden and Japan since 1940 to 2040.
Overall, at the beginning of the period, less than 10% of the population of the three countries aged 65 or over. However, the projection to end of the period demonstrate a raising in the population over 65 years old in all the countries mentioned.
By 1940, the 5% of the population of Japan aged 65 or more, this was the lower rate of the three counties for the same year. Since that year – 1940- to around 1990, the old population moderately decreased. Despite this, in 2000,the rate become to grow graduatelly until reach a 10% by the year 2030. The last decade of the period, the old population will abruptly climb outracing the USA and Sweden’s rates with more than 25% of the population with 65 years old or more.
Looking the USA and Sweden percentagewise, at the beginning of the graph each one had almost 10% and 7% ,respectively, of old population. In that moment, each country increased their rates constantly until 1980 where both experimented a modestly downward trend. Although, around 2025, USA as Sweden will suffer a steadly rise in their old population until reach a 22% in USA and 25% in Sweden of people older than 65 years.
