What are the pros and cons for children of watching television?
Recently, I read an article about the the influence of TV broadcasting on young people. In the article, some social workers state that it has negative effects them. However, some teachers have arguments that it is beneficial for their development. In this essay, I will consider the pros and cons of this.
Let us start with merits of youngsters to watch television. The first benefit is that it frequently helps children broaden horizons. Many children learn little about the world from the people around them, but TV programs, such as documentaries about wildlife and cosmos, can teach them more of the globe in pictures and sounds. Another positive is that it usually provides children an excellent pastime. Apart from spending time in the playground, children can also watch, for example, movies and TV series, when they come from school. Therefore, after analyzing, it is clear that spending time in front of the TV set is advantageous for children.
Nevertheless, despite these benefits, watching television has a great deal of negative impact on youngsters. Firstly, it often causes distraction from education. Academic performance usually suffers from daily watching TV broadcasting, because they concentrate largely on it rather than do homework. Secondly, it normally contributes to obesity in the youth. Children, who watch TV much, tend to gain excessive weight, since they mostly lead a sedentary lifestyle. As a result, after considering, it is obvious that watching television has a detrimental influence on children.
In conclusion, even though spending time in front of TV has a multitude of benefits for the youth, it also pose many complications for them.
