These are “Hogan’s alley” first published in two popular American news papers in 1890, and a comic book called “Action Comics” published in 1938 respectively. He says the first comic strip is published in 1719 in Europe, and the first comic book called “the adventures of Ten Ten” was first published in 1922 in Belgium.
Secondly, the author contends that comics in all countries have a strong American influence. They point out the popular comics Smurfs and Asterix as an example which they claim were inspired by Disney comics. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He suggests that Disney comics have a previous strong European influence due to that fact that some of their artist are from Europe.
Finally, the author states that literature and art scholars around the world support that comics are a unique American form of art. The article establishes that comics take origin in America which later would inspire comics everywhere. The lecturer on the other hand, posits that comics take origin in Europe. He puts forward the idea that comics are influenced by all cultures and countries so they belong to the whole world.
