silver coin
According to the reading, many people believed that European explores known as the Norse could bring silver coins used in Europe when they tour the North American, but there are some archaeologists who thought that the coin is a forgery. The author in the reading said that the coin is not real historical evidence. However, the professor in the listening gives several reasons as a rebuttal on the author's point.
First of all, the author in the reading contends that the Native American site in Maine where the coin was found is placed in the distance from other sites documenting a Norse presence in North America. The author in the reading said that the Maine site and the Norse settlements are more than thousands of kilometers. However, at that time, since Europeans who brought the coin traveled to many places, there is a lot of evidence as well as coins. Also, many sites are far from the place. This casts doubt on the reading passage's claim that the coins that were not reaching from the place support that they are no connection with the settlements.
Second, the professor in the listening argues that it is not true that there are no other coins at the Canadian sites. The reading said that Norse did not bring any silver coins with them to the settlement based on the non-existence of other coins in the place. However, it is a story for Europeans to trip with the coin and take them together when they return to their hometown. This counters the reading passage's claim that it is untrue that what other coins were not discovered at the sites espouses that Norse did not conduct silver coins with them to the place.
Lastly, the professor in the listening insists that it is an absurd claim that the Norse would have comprehended that silver coins would be futile to them. The reading said that experienced explores among them would have realized that native North American did not accept the coins as money. However, even though the Americans did not admit them as money since they like beautiful things such as jewelry, the coins are valuable in the place. This refutes the reading passage's claim
