The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Given is the flow - chart depicting the production of sugar from sugar cane.
It is conspicuous that the linear process consists of seven steps, starting with the planting of sugarcane trees, through various processing steps, finishing with the drying and cooling procedure.
To prepare for the whole process, sugar canes are grown over a 12 – 18 month period, after that they are accumulated by either manual labors or specialized machineries. In the next step, they separate the trees into leaves and stalks; however; leaves are not used to make sugar. At the same time, stalks are crushed by a squeezer which generates raw sugar cane juice.
In the fourth stage of the process, this raw substance is got rid of impurities by a limestone and then moved into a evaporator which uses fire to produce syrup. Subsequently, a centrifuge is used to filter the syrup from the sugar crystals. The process finishes with crystals that are dried and cooled in final form as sugar.
