The graphs below show the enrollments of overseas students and local students in Australian universities over a ten year period

Given are the line graphs comparing the number of foreign and indigenous students who studied in Australian universities over the decade of 2001-20010.
As can be seen from the graphs, there was a wide gap between the commencing and total quantity of students in a year. While the local student numbers was generally more than that of the foreigners, the overseas one experienced a higher growth rate over the period.
Specifically, in 2001, Australian universities attracted merely a negligible quantity of under 20,000 overseas students, whereas the indigenous numbers was nearly tenfold. However, the following years witnessed a dramatic rise of students choosing Australia as a destination, with the commencing numbers topped at 40,000 in 2010. In marked contrast, after reaching a peak of approximately 230,000, the local student enrollments fluctuated steadily at averagely 200,000.
When it comes to the total number of students in a year, both local and foreign enrollments share the same upward pattern. The quantity of students studying abroad was considered to experience a much higher growth rate compared to the locals when its figure rocketed to 80,000 at the end of the period, four times as high as the commencement. Regarding the local student enrollments, the data remained stable after peaking at 600,000.
