The table compares major financial supports received by international students in the USA between two periods 2003/04 and 2013/14
Overall, the number of students in total was seen with a sharp increase over the given years. Also, an upward trend was witnessed in all types of funding, except for other sources
In 2003/04, out of total of 572 509 overseas students, 67% of them were supported by themselves or their families. Funding from US college or university was received by 134 015 students which comprised only 23% of the total. Foreign government or university, current employer and other sources supported no more than 30 000 students each, which were not over 5% of the total
In 2013/14, personal and family still remained as the main financial source with 574 129 students, accounting for 65% of the total 886052 students. Remarkably, while there was an increase of 390% in students supported by the current employer, an only decrease of 14% was seen in the figure of other sources. With exceptions of Foreign Government or university and current employer, the remaining funding sources were witnessed with 2-4% declines in their proportions of total
