The graphs display the number of foreign students and native students pursuing higher education in Australian universities in a period of ten years, from 2001 to 2010.
It can be seen that there were much more local students than foreign students in universities. The first graph indicates how many overseas students were there in Australian universities. In the beginning of the decade, there were only more than 10000 first-year students while the total was nearly 20000 students. In the next nine years, a rapid rise could be seen in both the number of commencing students and the total, to 4000 first-year students and about 8000 students overall.
The second graph shows the enrolments of Australian students in universities. While the rate of students starting learning the first year was stable at the rate of about 200000 students, the total number was quite high and continue to increase from 400000 to 600000 students in seven years, starting from 2001. However, in the next three years, the rate stayed unchanged at over 600000 students.
