The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.
The given bar chart depicts the proportion of owner-occupiers and lessees in the UK and Wales over 93 years period. It is clear that the rate of renters significantly deflated, while the other dramatically crawled over a given period. Furthermore, before 1971, there were more lessees than ownership. Thereafter, the reverse was true.
According to this bar, about more than 20% of the freeholders were in 1918. Nevertheless, not until this proportion began to rocket in 1971 did it become the same as that of the leaseholders, at 50%. Then, continuously, the percentage of owned residents who swelled and reached its peak was in 2001, at nearly 70 percent. Then, there was a small deflation, which was roughly 65% in 2011.
On the other hand, there was approximately 75% of households leased accommodation in the beginning year of the given bar. Afterward, this slid significantly and hit a trough at about more than 30% in 2001. However, then, its rate which shot to between 30% and 40% was in the last year of the chart.
