Pros and Cons of deforestation
Writer and Professor discuss about the pros and cons of deforestation. While, writer think that deforestation is better for the overall growth of a society and must be done, professor have another thoughts. We will discuss it in following paragraphs.
Firstly, writer mention that deforestation provide farmland to grow crop and sustain ever increasing population. It says that deforestation is necessary to ensure food security. However, professor have another thought. He suggest that it is not worth to degrade forest ecosystem, rather new technologies should be used as to preserve forest. He mention that certain crops can be grown without soil and we should focus on that. Professor also gives an example of Brazil that already 60% of the rainforest area has been already cleared.
Secondly, the writer mention that with increasing population we also need to provide resident and we can do it only by cutting down the forests. It further mention that on deforested land, new towns can be build. Professor contradict it by saying that forest is also home to many plants, animals, and insects. Apart from that, alone rainforests are responsible for producing 28% of world’s oxygen and we can not justify cutting down the forests just for the purpose of making money. Instead of thinking about short tern benefit, we should focus on long tern consequences.
Lastly, the passage gives example of countries where a large population is dependent on forests for their economical upliftment by working on furniture, lumbar and other. The writing justify that deforestation is the need and such population and countries can not sustain themselves if we stop cutting down the trees. But the professor have other thoughts about it. He contradict above statement and said that the examples given by the author is from developing countries and there people are paid very less for such dangerous job. Also, individual does not benefit anything form deforestation, rather, the small business groups are main who is making money out of it.
The writer and author have very different views regarding the deforestation. While one write in favors of it, other simple contradict it.
