The chart illustrates how many people visited various World Heritage sites in Australia between 1996 and 2000.
Overall, there was an increase in travelers to Great Barrier Reef, Blue Mountains, Tasmania Wilderness and Shark Bay, while the rest locations saw a decline in visitors. In addition, Great Barrier Reef consistently had the highest figures throughout the period.
The number of visitors to Great Barrier Reef started at 1,670,000, with a sharp increase to 3,200,000 in the last year. Similar changes, but to a much lesser extent, were seen in 2 places: Blue Mountains and Tasmania Wilderness, which rose gradually from 526,000 and 450,000 in 1996 to 581,000 and 483,000 in 2000, respectively
810,000 people visited Central Eastern and Rainforest Reserve in 1996, with a slow decrease to 770,000 at the end. In addition, the figure for Shark Bay in 1996 was 84,000, after which it saw a fluctuation and reached a peak at 102,000 before declining to 89,000. Similarly, the number of travelers to Macquarie Island was at 350, followed by a slight decline before increasing to 330 in 2000. .
