Topic: The chart below shows the percentages of five kinds of magazines sold by a company in the UK between 2001 and 2009.
The bar chart illustrates the sales performance of five distinct categories of magazines by a UK company from 2001 and 2009.
Overall, the trend for economic and movie magazines was upward while that for social ones was downward. In addition, although magazines centered on social issues had the highest sales at the beginning of the period, they were eventually replaced by those reporting on economic news.
In 2001, magazines covering social topics were bestsellers, accounting for 40% of total sales. This was followed by economics and sports, with respective figures being 25% and just under 20%. Far below were magazines reviewing music and movies, as they constituted 10% and 5% of total sales in turn.
Subsequently, the percentage of social magazines sold plummeted, reaching a record low of 5% in 2009. In contrast, the sales figures for economic and movie magazines experienced significant growth, reaching 35% and 30%, respectively in 2009, making them the top two selling categories. Meanwhile, the sales of sports magazines fluctuated, reaching a peak of 25% in 2005 but declining to 20% by the end of the period. Regarding music magazines, despite a moderate drop of 5% in 2005, their sales recovered, ending the period with 10%.
