What are the advantages and disadvantages of leaving your country to live and study abroad?
Studying overseas has become increasingly popular in recent years, especially in developing countries. While this could bring invaluable advantages to students, it is notable that some disadvantages may also arise. In this essay, I will discuss both sides of this topic.
On the one hand, it is widely agreed that travelling to another country to study could be beneficial to learners in many ways. First of all, it is likely to offer students a significantly better curriculum compared to education programmes in their home country. For example, students in some Asian nations do not have access to the latest technology in physics, computer science, and other fields, which seriously hinders their potential. Thus, students in those nations tend to seek opporturnities to study abroad in order to work with the cutting-edge technology. Secondly, not only does studying abroad teach students textbook knowledge, but it also broaden their cultural understanding. As more and more people desire to explore the world, this becomes an important reason making people travel to study.
On the other hand, it is also worth discussing the potential drawbacks of studying in another nation. To begin with, it can take some time for people to get used to new living conditions. Many people may encouter negative emotions such as loneliness or homesick when travelling abroad for the first time. These feelings could possibly distract students and affect their scores. Another point to consider is that it takes people lots of effort to take care of themselves when they are far from home. Should they are ill, it will be exhausting for them to get to the hospital, buy the medicine, and do other things without the help from their family and friends.
In conclusion, while going to study in another country could be intellectually beneficial to students, there are challenges to take into account. Without comprehensive preparation, these challenges could bring considerable disadvantages to students.
