The line graph illustrates the number of trips to and from the United Kingdom between 1979 and 1999, while the bar chart displays the top destinations visited by UK citizens in 1999.
In general, it's quite clear that there was a significant rise in the number of visits from the UK to other countries more than the number of trips to the UK, and France was the top choice for holiday destinations while Turkey was the least popular country visited by the UK citizens.
To begin with, the quantity of trips taken by people from the UK to other countries exceeded the number of visits from abroad to the UK, and this trend continued over time. Initially, both started at approximately 10 million, but the number of outbound trips rose notably to over 50 million, while the number of foreign visitors increased steadily to nearly 30 million.
In 1999, France was the most visited country with about 11 million tourists, while Turkey, Greece, and the USA were the least popular countries and less visited by UK residents with around 2,3,and 4 million visitors in sequence. Also, Spain was one of the most visited countries it came after France with 9 million visitors.
