People say that it is a waste of time for high school students to learn literature such as novels and poems. Do you agree or disagree?
Many people believe that students in high school do not need to learn literature such as novels and poems, and consider this subject as a wate of time. From my perspective, I completely disagree with this opinion for numerous reasons.
To commence with, literture is a subject that improve a sense of empathy in people, contribute to the process of emotional development. Through reading stories in novels and poems, students can learn to empathize with characters, then apply it in the real world. Moreover, learning literature is also a way to preserve culture and history of a country. In fact, numerous history events from the past were wrote into poems by historical heros. For example, during the period of time when finding ways to save country, Ho Chi Minh wrote a lot of stories as well as poem telling about his process and his experiences in that time. As a result, studying these poems can make students have a deeper understanding about national country and foster their patriotism.
In addition, learning diverse subjects, including literature, can help students broaden their knowledge due to a wide range of other nations’ cultures was wrote in novels. It can make students know how to gather and connect information among several topics that can help them make informed decisons independently. Furethermore, time in high school is the period when student start shaping their career path and having the direction for future job. So it is crucial for student to study literature if they want to become writers, journalists, literatal teacher or any job relavant to this subject, whether it’s much or less.
In conclusion, literature is a very important subject due to a variety of its roles in life. As a result, I believe that students should spend time learning this subjects in not only primary or secondary school but also high school, the opinion considering literature as a watse of time should be eliminated.
