Essay topics:

The two figures below show the rate of criminal convictions among men and women of different ages in the US and the proportion of male and female prison inmates in the British prison system.

According to the figures provided, the line graph provided reveals how the conviction rate changed at various ages among different sexes expressed as percentages while the pie chart illustrates the proportions of prisoners in both genders in the UK.

It is obvious that the number of convicted criminals reached an all-time high during the adolescence in both sexes and more guilty verdicts were delivered for male criminals than female ones regardless of age. Moreover, a marked contrast between the number of male prisoners and that of female offenders can be easily seen from the pie chart.

Both the male and the female conviction rates began rising at the age of 10 with 2 and 0 percent respectively and climbed significantly during the puberty. The rates rocketed to the peaks of 16 and 5 percent by the age of 20, then going down constantly to the original 2 and 0 percent when 60-year old.

Men proven guilty were undoubtedly higher than women proven so over the whole range. However, the gap widened the most roughly by 11 percent, when offenders were in their early twenties and gradually narrowed down back with a 2-percent discrepancy at 60.

Men who were confined in jail accounts for 96 percent of prison population while only 4 percent of that is female. Surprisingly, there is a disproportion between the percentage difference of male/female convictions and that of male/female inmate turnover.
