“Many lives might be saved if inoculations against cow flu were routinely administered to all people in areas where the disease is detected. However, since there is a small possibility that a person will die as a result of the inoculations, we cannot permit inoculation against cow flu to be routinely administered.”
The theme of the discussion revolves around a disease born out of a domestic specie-cow. The author claims that many lives could be saved if the inoculations are routinely administered. However, the number of deaths are considerably low and hence, they don't administer as often. while I think author makes a good point, on close scrutiny it can be observed that lives are more important than any expenses spent on the cure. As they say - 'Better safe than sorry'. hence, I disagree with author's stance. To substantiate my argument, I present the following scenarios.
author claims that routinely administration of cow flu cannot be permitted but does not offer a reason for the same. if the step back is because of resource constraints, then proper management should be done to allocate fair share for cow flu. lives are more precious than any expense.
Numerous vaccinations such as the polio are a one-time vaccination. if a chemical can be introduced inside a human's body which will immune them for rest of their lives, it can avoid the hassle of any routinely administration.
author also claims that the death due to cow flu are very few. There is a high possibility that the reason of deaths aren't properly noted and the stats provided to the author aren't completely reliable. people might confuse cow flu with some other common disease. hence, if a routinely administration is done it will not only immune the people against cow flu, it will also increase the awareness amongst people regarding the condition.
while author seems to make a logical conclusion in the scenario, on close insight it was observed that author's decision based on limited information isn't necessarily good for the population. hence, a thorough analysis must be done before limiting the rutinely administration.
