The lecture and the passage discuss the possibility of human presence on Venus. The passage states that contrary to mars and moon it is impossible that humans maintain present on Venus. whereas, the professor in the lecture disagrees with the reading reasons and believes humans can maintain present on Venus.
First, the reading believes as a result of the high pressure of the atmosphere on the surface of Venus, spacecraft would have been crushed. However, the professor argued against this idea and mentioned a physical concept that is about the decrease of the pressure with an increase of height. Hence, people can solve this problem by increasing their height to the surface of Venus. Actually, in the height of 15 km from the Venus surface, they could have the same pressure of the earth.
Second, the passage claims that there is no water source on Venus and moreover, the planet's atmosphere made up mostly of Carbone dioxide, Nitrogen, and sulfuric acid. However, the lecture believes by using a chemical process, people can make water with these materials. As a result, they can produce the required water.
Finally, the reading stated that the sunlight that can reach the surface will be so little because of a heavy cloud of carbon dioxide around the surface of the planet. As a result, people can't use their solar power cells and consequently, they can't use their machines and equipment. However, the lecturer believes although there is a dense layer of CO2 around Venus, it isn't much thick in the height of 15 km. Also, they can use both direct sunlight and reflected light to produce power that they need for their machines.
Although the reading denies the possibility of maintaining the presence of humans on Venus, the lecture disagrees and believes it is completely possible by illustrating his reasons.
