The table below shows statistics about the top five countries for international tourism in 2012 and 2013
The table compares five highest ranking countries in terms of worldwide tourist number and expenditure in 2012 and 2013.
As can be seen, the two-year period witnessed an upward trend in both aspects of tourism in all countries except for China. While the largest number of tourists was seen for France, USA was the dominant nation in tourist revenue.
We can see that France was the most popular tourist destination internationally, experiencing a slight rise to 84,7 millions visitors in 2013. Despite increasing number of travelers, the revenue this country earned from tourism was only half as much as the figure from USA, which was averagely 55 billion dollars compared to 130 billion dollars. Although there were fewer visitors to the US, this country was in the first rank regarding the gross revenue from tourism.
Spain was the only nation experiencing the highest growth rate in tourist number and spending, increasing by 3,1 millions people and 4 billion dollars respectively. Italy also saw a small rise in both aspects, but it still was the least chosen destination of 5 countries. In contrast to other nations, China’s number of tourists fell slightly to 55,7 million people, but its revenue went up to 51,7 billion dollars overall.
