The article states that the decline of the sea otter is caused by environmental pollution and not by predators and the reading provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains the decline is caused by predation and provides three reasons of support which refutes each of the reading reason.
Firstly, the reading posits that the increase level of the chemical in the sea have rendered the otter powerful and indirectly could cause their death. The professor retutes this by saying no one can find the dead sea otter and the fact that this can not be found suggest that these otter are eaten by predators.
Secondly, the reading claims that predators such as sea mammals and sea lions are declining in line with the sea otter and this implies that it can not be predator that is causing the dcline. In contrast, the professor states that the decline is caused by hunters. She explains further that hunters hunnts whales and these whale might have migrated to different location and since there are no whale for the hunters to hunt again, these hunters fall back to hunting other sea animals such as sea lions, sea otter and this means that the decline is caused by predator.
Thirdly, the reading states that the decline varies in the sea, in some it declines greatly while it is stable in other and the reading explains that only ocean current and environmental factors may cause this. The professor opposes this by predator causes the decline to vary and not the ocean current and environmental factors. She explain further that these animals are forced to shallow water area.
