The line graph below shows the percentage of tourists to Scotland who visited four different attractions in Edinburgh
The line chart depicts the proportion of travellers to Scotland visiting four distinct attractions, namely Aquarium, Castle, Zoo and Festival in Edinburgh over a 30-year period starting from 1980.
Overall, it is evident that the percentage of tourists to Scotland visiting Aquarium and Festival experienced a downward trend, while the figure for Castle and Zoo’s visitors witnessed a upward trend over the period. In addition, the percentage of Castle’s visitors seemed to have the most significant changes througout 30 years.
In 1980, the proportion of people visiting Castle was the second highest, stood at around 24%. After that, the period starting from 1980 to 1990 experienced a substantial increase to almost 45% in the percentage of Castle’s visitors. However, in the year 2000, a considerable fall of 10% was seen in the proportion of Castle’s visitors and it continued to gradually fall until the year 2010. Despite witnessing a gradual decrease, the percentage of people visiting Castle still became the highest and peak at 31% over the period.
In 1980, the percentage of people visiting Zoo was only 10%. Although in the period from 1980 to 2000, the proportion of Zoo’s visitors saw a wild fluctuation, the figure still stayed unchanged, stood at 10% as in 1980. Afterwards, between 2000 and 2010, the percentage of Zoo’s visitors experienced a noticeable rise to about 20% over the period.
It can be seen that the percentage of people visiting Aquarium in 1980 was about 20%. Thereafter, there was a sharp rise in the figure for travellers to Aquarium in 1985 but then it considerably decreased to less than 10% in 2010. Experiecing the same trend with Aquarium, the proportion of travellers visiting Festival, which was the highest figure in 1980, witnessed a gradual fall, from 30% to about 26%, throughout the period.
