The bar graph illustrates the proportion of households owning and renting accommodation in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011.
It is clear that the proportion of households in owned house saw ascending trend whilst the opposite was the case for other.
At the start of period, the proportion of households in rented accommodation was about 77% which is roughly three times higher than that in owned accommodation. Afterwards, the percentage of households renting house dropped minimally to 68% in the year 1939 and maintained to the year 1953. There was a significant decrease from 68% to approximately 31% between 1953 and 2001 before that increased modestly to about 35% in the next ten years.
In contrast, the percentage of households in owned accommodation rose minimally from 22% to 32% between 1918 and 1939 and the data in the year 1953 was the same with 1939. After that, the percentage of households in owned house grew remarkably and reached a peak by 69% in the year 2001 before it fell minimally to 64% in the year 2001 before it fell minimally to 64% in the year 2011.
