The first chart below gives information about the money spent by British parents on their children’s sports between 2008 and 2014. The second chart shows the number of children who participated in three sports in British over the same time period.
The charts demonstrate the amount of money spent on children’s sports activities by their parents in Britain, as well as the number of children taking part in three distinct sports in a 7-year period from 2008 to 2014.
Overall, what stands out from these two charts is that there was a constant increase in the average spending in a month by British parents. Football figures, meanwhile, almost saw a level off throughout the period.
With regards to the parents spending money on movement activities, figures saw a steady increase, starting from 20 pounds in each month in 2008, and going up to approximately 33 pounds, more than one and half times the first amount.
Turning to the number of children participating in the sports, football stayed consistently the most popular one during this period with over 8 million participants. Swimming, however, despite going up in number of children during the period, and also attracting more attendance than athletics in 2008, around 2 million children as its first figure, athletics figures almost doubled to just below 5 million. In 2011, athletics and swimming entrants witnessed exactly the same number of children, 2.5 million.
