Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
Both the reading passage and the lecture are about the decline of cedar population. The reading passage states the the yellow cedar are declining and provides the three hypothesis for support.
First and foremost, the reading avers that the main cause of decline of the cedar is insect parasites specifically cedar bark bettle which attacks the tree. The professor believes there are flaws in the author's position and oppose this hypothesis by indicating that some cedar are healthy and are resistant to insects than other bark and leaves saturated with powerful chemical which is poisonous to insect. As a result,it is unlikely that cedar suffer from such insects. Hence, the pofessor opposes this point.
secondly, the text outlines that bears eat the yellow cedar beak because it is the part of the diet of bears. Nevertheless, the lecture posits that bears damaged some tress across the coastal north america but the species of island is also decreasing, although there are no bears.
Finally, the author brings his argument to close by suggesting that the climates has affected alot to the roost system of yellow cedar. Not surprisingly, the lecturer takes issue with this claim by contending that the trees that have lower elevation dies more. climate made the roots more sensitive. Thus, the professor considers this point in the passage to be invalid.
It is quite visible that the author and the lecturer hold conflicting views about this cedar population and they are having trouble in finding a common ground on this issue.
