The graph gives information about the fertility rate in China and the USA from 1920 to 2000.
Overall, there is a resemblance in the trends between the two countries based on the fluctuation at the beginning and the down trends at the end of the period.
Between 1920 to 1940, the USA fluctuated about 13 per cent until decreased significantly to 5 per cent in 1945. Then, the USA's birth rate rose dramatically to 15 per cent, which is the highest proportion in the USA. This was followed by a downward trend from 1950 and at 7 per cent at the end of the period.
Meanwhile, China's birth rate rose from about 10 per cent in 1920 to 15 per cent in 1935 before experiencing a sharp decrease in 1935 and remain at this level until 1945. After this, it surged dramatically to a peak of 20 per cent and dropped rapidly to less than 10 per cent in 1955. In the latter half of the century, China's fertility rate declined steadily to approximately 3 per cent in 2000.
