In the modern world, it is possible to shop, work and communicate with people via the Internet and live without any face-to-face contact with others. Is it a positive or negative development? Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge.
Nowadays, modern life is characterized by shopping, working, and interacting with people online without having to meet in person. Whether is it a positive or negative development, I will elaborate, analyze some causes and expand my opinion in the essay.
On the one hand, thanks to the dramatic expansion of the Internet, residents' lives will be easier and more convenient. To start with, people today can do home shopping or buy products online without wasting any time wandering around malls, supermarkets, etc and safe that time on doing other jobs that matter more. At the same time, sometimes, big promotion is offered from flagship stores or discounts from e-commerce sites, so for economic reasons, consumers usually choose to order their stuff like this, to cut down daily expenses because the products on these websites may be lower than the ones on normal boutiques. Another crucial advantage of using the Internet is the emergence of modern telecommunication applications. Via cyberspace, users can connect with friends or relatives that they cannot meet in daily life due to long distances, which was hardly possible a long time ago when people from a far distance can only communicate through hand-writing letters.
On the other hand, social media and the Internet might have many benefits, but there are also some limitations to these online resources. When people spent too much time browsing the Internet to shop and chat, interpersonal communication will decline making people's bonds weaken and might directly affect not only our mental health but also our physical health. An obvious example of this is youngsters nowadays enjoy spending their free time on video games instead of taking part in outdoor activities like camping or playing basketball. As a consequence, this phenomenon might lead to a dire threat for the younger generation as they will become frigid and cold-blooded.
To sum up, I believe that everything has two sides, so does the Internet. Undeniably, the merits of using the Internet have made our lives more efficient, but it also cannot justify the fact that it has seriously harmed our interactive communications.
