summarize the points made in the lecture you just heard, explaining how they cast doubt on the contents of the reading. you may refer to the passage as you write.
In the lecture, the professor made several points about the first grain food discovered by humans. The professor argues that alternative hypotheses are now been discovered about the first grain food being beer and not bread. However, the author of the passage contends that the first grain food was bread. The professor’s lecture casts doubt on the reading by giving a number of points that are contradictory to that of the passage.
The first point that the professor uses to cast doubt on the reading is the consumption method of wheat. According to the professor, wheat does not have to be grinded before it can be eaten. She stated that if wheat is kept in a wet environment, it will be softer and sweeter to eat. The point about wheat being easy to consume without crushing made by the professor cast doubt on the reading because the author of the passage stated that people had to crush wheat in order to eat it as it was too hard to be eaten.
Another point that the professor used in casting doubt on the reading is the easy fermentation of wheat. It was stated in the passage that the people discovered that fermentation occurred on the paste of the wheat when left to sit for a while. The point is contradicted by the professor that argues that once wheat is stored, fermentation starts to occur almost immediately.
In additional, the professor also stated the cooking method of food used in the past. According to her, food was only cooked in the past and so fire method was not obvious then. This point cast doubts on the passage as it was stated that wheat was baked into bread by the simple method of fire.
In conclusion, the points made in the lecture contrast with the reading and demonstrate that the reading is in doubt.
