The graph shows the number of years immigrants wanted to settle in the UK from 2000 to 2008 and the chart illustrates the percentage of reasons for their immigrants in 2008.
Overall, the number of immigrants who want to live in the UK in different lengths of time followed an upward trend, except for foreign people intending to stay for 4 or more years. Besides, work was the most popular reason for immigration while other and no reason stated took up the smallest percentage.
Looking in more details about the graph, there are 150 immigrants who had intention of staying in the UK during 1 first examined year, equivalent to the figure for people who want to live 4 or more years. Following this period, this number rocketed to 250 over 4 years, before staying relatively unchanged from 2004 to 2008. Immigrants who wanted to live in the UK 2 to 4 years were the smallest group and its figure fluctuated moderately around 50 over 5 years and then increased double in 2008. In addition, the number of people living in the UK for 4 or more years was stable during the examined period.
Regarding the chart, nearly two-fifth of immigrants went to the UK for work. With 32%, international students took up the second highest percentage, twice as much as the figure for accompany or join family. Interestingly, immigrants with other reasons and no reason stated shared the same number at 7%.
