The chart illustrates the number of US households by their annual income during the years of 2007, 2011 and 2015.
Overall, throughout 8 years, there was a slight increase in the number of households in the US, except for the figure of $50,000 to $74,999 group that remained stable. Moreover, the group with an annual income of $100,000 or more accounted for the most number of US households, whereas the $75,000 to $99,999 annual income group made up the least.
In 2007, people with an annual income of $100,000 or more constituted nearly 30 millions, more than half of that of the $75,000 to $99,999 income group. The income groups of $25,000 to $49,999 and $50,000 to $74,999 showed a slight gap of under 5% between the number of households in the US.
However, throughout 2011 and 2015, despite unchanged rankings all income groups experienced changes in the number of households, except for the $50,000 and $74,999 income group’s data that plateaued at over 20 millions. From 2011 to 2015, the four annual income groups with the exception of the $50,000 and $74,999 group all experienced a small fluctuation in the number of households in the US before a slight increase compared to the data in 2007.
