The bar chart illustrates the proportion of the weekly income distributed by families in an unknown country in the two years 1968 and 2018.
Overall, spending on housing, transport, and leisure went up, while the expenditures on food, fuel and power, clothing and footware, and personal goods went down. However, household goods seemed to be unchanged throughout fifty years.
In 1968, it was food that had the most spending by those unspecified families with 35%. However, after five decades, this percentage decreased sharply by nearly 20%. A similar trend occurred in the proportion of clothing and footwear, and personal goods which were 10% and 8% respectively. Otherwise, fuel and power witnessed a slight downward in its expenditures which was approximately 6% in 1968 and 4% in 2018.
After fifty years, in 2018, there was a dramatic change in the spending on leisure leading this item to rank in the top one with about 22%. Also increasing in this period, housing and transport had significant growth from 10% and 8% to about 18% and 14% respectively. Surprisingly, household goods demonstrated their stability at roughly 8%, albeit it was fifty years later.
