The bar chart shows the number of male and female people arrested by type of offence (crime).
The bar chart provides information about the percentage of seven different types of crimes that were committed by men or women in September of 2008. Overall, violent crime and theft were two prominent figures, surprisingly with the female proportion higher than their counterpart in both cases. In contrast, in terms of getting caught by the police, robbery, as well as fraud, had the smallest percentage.
There were three crime categories, which are violence, theft and fraud, that female figures outstripped male figures. Shockingly, violence made up the largest proportion at about 31% and 33% for men and women respectively. The gap between the two genders in the theft section was even wider with female figure about 10% higher than male, to be more precise, 20% for male and 31% for the other. Unlike the above-mentioned crimes, fraud and forgery hold an unexpectedly low proportion, that is to say, it was just under 3% in total.
The pattern was reserved in the remaining types of crime. In other words, males committed crimes, which is robbery, burglary, criminal damage, drug and other offences, higher than females. The lowest level of offence was the robbery group and this made up smaller than 5%. This number was almost double in the burglary category. For the drug offences group, the criminal damage group and the other offences group, the gap between men and women were identically 3%, with male figures were 7%, 10% and 15% respectively.
